Vince Hilaire floated in a free-kick in the twenty-third minute to open the scoring. It remained the only goal in the first half. However, Thompson equalized for the home side just three minutes into the second half. It did not take long for Leeds to reclaim their lead as Paul Allmark struck the winner three minutes later. Referee R. Rawson (Sheffield). "Paul Allmark was a triallist from Sheffield University who play a couple of games for the reserves in that period/ Courtesy Knut C. Helleso-Knutsen"
